Los Angeles is not a city. It is a sun-soaked horizontal network made of countless small towns stitched together.
In LA, you have to drive. Spending two hours on the 405 is part of the basic setup. But once you get out of the car, the beaches, canyon roads, sudden murals in quiet neighborhoods, and pelicans beside Echo Park Lake all make those two hours feel worth it.
The colors of the West Coast are warm yellow, pale purple, and a gasoline-tinted orange. LA does not try to be likable - but sooner or later, you end up liking it.
